Aspectos Socioeconómicos, a Realização Pessoal, a Continuidade e a Relação Conjugal,
The transition to maternity is a significant career event that can impact on the identity and career building of women. This study intends to understand the relationship between Career, Identity and Motivation for maternity in Portuguese pregnant women. A quantitative study was carried out, including 57 pregnant women between the ages of 16 and 39 (M = 29.70, SD = 6.233). Of the participants, 61.4% of pregnant women were married, 29.8% were single, 3.5% were widows and 5.3% were divorced. A "Sociodemographic and Life History Questionnaire" was administered, a questionnaire of vocational identity and a Scale of Motivations for parenting. The results point to high and positive correlations between Vocational Identity and positive motivations for maternity, such as Socioeconomic Aspects, Personal Realization, Continuity and Conjugal Relationship, and negative correlations between vocational identity and some negative motivations for maternity, Such as parental demand / immaturity, social and ecological concern, and financial problems. These results are discussed in light of theory and research in this context, with implications for career interventions with women being removed. |
