Concepções de estudantes do ensino superior acerca da Eugenia

Abstract

Objetiva-se com a presente pesquisa conhecer as concepções que emergem de conhecimentos, valores e práticas de estudantes do ensino superior acerca da Eugenia. A metodologia de abordagem quantitativa consistiu na análise das frequências das respostas a um questionário elaborado e validado a partir da escala tipo Likert. A pesquisa foi realizada com universitários dos anos iniciais e finais de cursos das áreas de biológicas e de humanidades de uma universidade localizada no Brasil e outra em Portugal. Os resultados indicaram que grande parte dos estudantes não detém conhecimentos sobre o termo eugenia. Contudo, a maioria dos acadêmicos evidencia valores sistêmicos quanto ao uso da engenharia genética para buscar o melhoramento humano e práticas contrárias às ideologias do movimento eugênico. Esse resultado evidencia a necessidade de incluir a contextualização histórica da eugenia no ensino, promovendo a integração de conhecimentos, valores e práticas para a formação de concepções críticas acerca do tema.

The objective of this research is to understand the conceptions that emerge from the knowledge, values and practices of higher education students about Eugenia. The methodology of quantitative approach consisted in the analysis of the frequencies of the answers to a questionnaire elaborated and validated from the Likert scale. The research was carried out with university students from the initial and final years of courses in the biological and humanities areas of a university located in Brazil and another in Portugal. The results indicated that most students do not have knowledge about the term eugenics. However, most scholars point to systemic values regarding the use of genetic engineering to seek human

improvement and practices contrary to the ideologies of the eugenic movement. This result evidences the need to include the historical contextualization of eugenics in teaching, promoting the integration of knowledge, values and practices for the formation of critical conceptions about the theme.
