O Castelo de Portuzelo: análise interpretativa de uma construção romântica

Abstract

O objeto de estudo da presente dissertação é o Castelo de Portuzelo, trata-se de uma residência rural de uma família da alta sociedade de Viana do Castelo. A propriedade em que este se implanta passou por várias transformações desde o século XIII até aos dias de hoje, considerando-se esse mesmo arco cronológico para o reconhecimento do objeto. Incidindo o trabalho sobre uma obra arquitetónica do século XIX, visa-se aqui reconhecer a importância arquitetónica do Castelo de Portuzelo, bem como no contexto cultural da sua formalização, enquadrando-o no panorama da produção romântica não só em Portugal, mas também na Europa. A partir da pesquisa de informação documental e com a realização do levantamento métrico e fotográfico permite formar uma narrativa sobre o objeto de estudo. Assim sendo, pretende-se interpretar o material construído e identificar o papel do Castelo de Portuzelo no período em que se inseriu. Em seguida será investigada a viagem de António Pereira da Cunha, autor do desenho da sua residência que, segundo várias fontes, serviu como um meio de contacto, assimilação e transferência de novos referentes culturais, podendo assim relacionar com elementos e formas arquitetónicas análogas existentes noutros contextos, identificando possíveis modelos que interferiram na concretização do projeto de arquitetura ao nível da conformação imagética. Por fim, considerando a história e valor arquitetónico do Castelo de Portuzelo, pretende-se que este documento reclame o lugar deste objeto entre os bens patrimoniais de uma época ainda pouco explorada pela historiografia e pouco reclamada ao nível do legado patrimonial.

The object of study of this dissertation is the Castle of Portuzelo, it is a rural residence of a high society family of Viana do Castelo. The property in which it is implanted has undergone several transformations since the thirteenth century until the present day, considering the same chronological arc for the recognition of the object. Focusing the research on a 19th century architectural building, it aims to recognize the architectural importance of the Castle of Portuzelo, as well as the cultural context of its formalization, integrating it in the panorama of the romantic production not only in Portugal but also in Europe. From the research and analyzing of the documentary information and with the accomplishment of the metric and photographic survey, it was possible to form a narrative about the object of study. Thus, it is intended to interpret the constructed material and to identify the role of the Castle of Portuzelo in the period in which it was included. Then, the trip made by António Pereira da Cunha will be investigated, author of the design of his residence that, according to various sources, served as a means of contact, assimilation and transfer of new cultural references, therefore being able to relate with similar architectural elements and forms in other contexts, identifying possible models that interfered in the concretization of the architecture project at the level of the conformation of the image. Finally, considering the history and architectural value of the Castle of Portuzelo, it is intended that this document reclaims the place of this object among the patrimonial assets of an era still barely explored by the historiography and hardly recognize at the level of the patrimonial legacy.
