pilling.
e do modal.
One of the most important characteristics of a fabric or clothing is the visual aspect also, one of the main challenges of the textile industry is to prevent pilling that significantly affects the visual aspect of a product. Based on this, the main objective of this dissertation was to study different enzymes to apply in the biopolishing of four distinct textile fibers: cotton, lyocell, modal and viscose, to prevent pilling. The study was based on initial bibliographic research on the state of the art of the use of enzymes in the biopolishing of textile fibers, the selection of the appropriate enzymes considering the needs of the company, the application of enzymes in an industrial context, the performance of laboratory tests to assess their efficiency and, finally, the selection of the most suitable enzyme for the biopolishing of each textile fiber. Thus, 15 enzymes were selected from 5 different suppliers. Among the selected enzymes, only 5 were recommended by the suppliers for the biopolishing of viscose and modal. As such, the 15 enzymes were tested on cotton and lyocell and only 5 on viscose and modal. The conditions in biopolishing application were defined for each enzyme and were applied in the same way to all textile fibers. Afterwards, all the samples were submitted to laboratory tests, to verify the enzymatic effectiveness. As such, tests of abrasion, resistance to pilling and bursting were used. The final aspect of the samples was also evaluated visually, and an economic analysis of the process was carried out. Finally, to select the most suitable enzyme for the biopolishing of the 4 textile fibers under study, a final comparison was made with the results obtained in all parameters studied and it was concluded that the most effective enzymes in the biopolishing of cotton, lyocell and modal were the enzymes M, H and L, respectively, all having characteristics of stability in neutral media. As for viscose, it was concluded that none of the enzymes studied was effective in its biopolishing, since there are still no effective enzymes on the market for the treatment of this textile fiber. |
