O impacto da idade e experiência profissional na formação do contrato psicológico: estudo aplicado à optometria

Abstract

A realidade atual da conjuntura laboral leva a uma perceção de carreira e de relações interpessoais diversificadas por parte dos profissionais. No contexto da optometria o meio de trabalho é variado existindo a possibilidade de trabalho em óticas ou em meio hospitalar. Todas estas opções tornam as relações entre optometrista e entidade patronal suscetíveis a alterações. As expectativas que cada indivíduo cria da entidade patronal traduzem-se na forma como as consultas aos pacientes são realizadas e o desempenho geral é conseguido. O grande interesse é perceber, através de entrevistas semiestruturadas a 27 optometristas de idades e anos de experiência profissional diversificados, que estão atualmente a exercer a função, se a experiência profissional e os anos de carreira transformam o contrato psicológico, se de facto existe maior propensão para determinado tipo de contrato em idades mais avançadas. O modelo que serve por base à análise de dados é o de Denise Rousseau (1995) analisando três das quatro formas contratuais por si identificadas: transacional, equilibrado e relacional. Os resultados obtidos na análise de dados permitem identificar que a maioria dos sujeitos na faixa etária mais jovem possuem um CP do tipo transacional, enquanto os da faixa etária mais velha divergem no tipo de CP.

The current reality of the labor market leads to an individual perception of a diversified career root and multiple interpersonal relationships. In the context of optometry, the work environment is diversified, with the possibility of working in optics or in a hospital environment. All these options make the relationship between the optometrist and the employer susceptible to change. The expectations that each individual holds from the employer translates into the professionalism that each optometrist puts in its work performance. With our study we aim at understanding if there are age and seniority differences among optometrists in what concerns their views regarding their work experiences and their psychological contracts. We interviewed 27 optometrists of different ages and years of professional experience who were currently exercising the function. Our goal was to see if years of experience and age play a significant role in the formation and evolution of the psychological contract, and to understand if age is a powerful determinant for a certain type of psychological contract. The theoretical model that serves as a basis for data analysis is the work of Denise Rousseau (1995), hence in our study we also identify three distinct forms of psychological contract terms: transactional, balanced and relational. The results obtained allow us to identify that most subjects at the young age group have a transactional type of psychological contract, while the older age group diverges in the type of psychological contract held.
