In a society increasingly focused on the digital world, traditional advertising methods aren’t sufficient for brands to remain competitive and current. Therefore, the use of digital influencers becomes increasingly important, in a phenomenon known as influencer marketing. However, despite the benefits that may arise from partnerships and collaborations with digital celebrities, its use does not always mean profits for the brands, namely when these individuals take part in some scandal or questionable activity, which causes a loss of credibility for themselves, and the brands they endorse, that are associated with their image. The same can happen the other way around, due to a bidirectional effect in which the negative change in the credibility of the brand affects the influencers who work with the company. Thus, this dissertation focuses on the study of the consequence of a change in the credibility of influencers and brands, after the occurrence of a negative situation and the way in which this change affects the two parties involved, the organization and the influencers themselves. To that end, a netnographic study was carried out, mainly focused on the social media platform Instagram and based on three influencers from different countries and a brand known for its participation and notoriety in the digital world, which allowed the attainment of conclusive information and answers to the study prepositions. The data obtained, namely the comments from the audiences of the elements studied, enabled the conclusion that the bidirectional viewpoint is not the same from the influencer to the brand and there are differences in publics’ opinions regarding the origin of the scandal.por
