Discriminação de género na arbitragem de futebol: um contributo empírico para a realidade portuguesa

Abstract

O estudo e a análise sobre a discriminação de género têm assumido grande relevância ao longo dos anos em áreas como direitos humanos, justiça social, desenvolvimento económico, saúde e bem-estar, educação e participação política. De forma a promover a igualdade de oportunidades entre indivíduos do género feminino e masculino no contexto desportivo, mais especificamente na arbitragem de futebol, é fundamental uma análise contínua e eficaz da situação atual, visando implementar práticas que corrijam desigualdades enraizadas. Este estudo procura refletir sobre a perceção das árbitras relativamente à temática da discriminação, identificando os principais desafios e obstáculos que as mulheres enfrentam atualmente na arbitragem de futebol em Portugal. Pretende-se ainda perceber quais as motivações das mulheres para enveredar por esta carreira e as expectativas que têm para o futuro. Através de uma investigação qualitativa, a informação recolhida reflete a predominância de discursos paradoxais sobre a temática da discriminação de género. De forma geral, verifica-se que ainda existem alguns fatores e comportamentos que promovem a discriminação de género. Concomitantemente, de acordo com os dados obtidos nas entrevistas, verifica-se uma tendência para maior abertura de mentalidades e aceitação das mulheres no futebol, também muito devido às instituições que gerem o futebol Português. O estudo permite concluir que a discriminação de género ainda está presente no “mundo” do futebol em Portugal, mas em claro decréscimo, sobretudo nos últimos anos.

The study and analysis of gender discrimination have gained significant relevance over the years in areas such as human rights, social justice, economic development, health and well-being, education, and political participation. To promote equal opportunities between males and females in sports, particularly in football refereeing, conducting a continuous and practical analysis of the current situation is essential, aiming to implement practices that address entrenched inequalities. This study seeks to reflect on women referees' perceptions regarding the issue of discrimination, identifying the main challenges and obstacles that women currently face in football refereeing in Portugal. Additionally, it aims to understand the motivations that drive women to pursue this career and their expectations for the future. Through qualitative research, the information gathered reflects the predominance of paradoxical discourses on gender discrimination. Overall, it is evident that some factors and behaviours still promote gender discrimination. Simultaneously, according to data obtained from interviews, there is a tendency toward more open-mindedness and acceptance of women in football, mainly due to the efforts of the institutions managing portuguese football. The study concludes that gender discrimination remains present in the "world" of football in Portugal, although it has clearly decreased, especially in recent years.
