Thermal waters are a resource with increasing importance in mainland Portugal, especially in the therapeutic field and quality of life. With this growing interest also arises the need for greater knowledge of the resource in order to ensure the preservation of its quality throughout the exploration cycle. The creation of a concetual hydrogeological model provides the necessary information and presents it so that its interpretation is facilitated. This is advantageous for future investigations and technical decisions such as drilling a new hole. The exploration of the Eirogo Hot Springs, located near the city of Barcelos (Portugal), is of great interest to the region. Its exploration is currently suspended, but there are plans to retake and rebuild the facilities, which prompted a preliminary hydrogeological and geochemical study of the thermal area. The interest comes from the sulphide facies of water that make it ideal for use in the treatment of respiratory, musculoskeletal, skin and even gynecological diseases. The study area, which is the Ribeira de Pontes watershed, is dominated by intruded granitic rocks in metasedimentary rocks. In the area there are also deposits of Quaternary age and a regolithic layer with a few meters of thickness, through which the infiltrated water circulates superficially, being discharged in the watercourses. Groundwater flow occurs only through fractures and faults at higher depths following medium and long term flow paths. Following this study, it was concluded that the preferred recharge area of Eirogo thermal water is located in the NE area of the Ribeira de Pontes watershed, at an altitude of about 300 m. Water flows mainly through an extensive NE-SW oriented fault that runs through the watershed and passes near the thermal area. The thermal water reaches depths of about 3260 m, and na aproximate temperature of 123ºC. Then returns to the surface through a densely fractured area in which the current thermal water abstraction is located.por
