Propriedades psicométricas do Emotional and Psychological Outcome (EPO-1): validação portuguesa numa amostra clínica

Abstract

Os estudos empíricos demonstraram que a inclusão de medidas de Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) na prática clínica trazem benefícios para os clientes. Juntamente com a perceção vantajosa da sua inclusão no processo terapêutico, tem surgido também, ao longo do tempo, a necessidade de medidas ROM mais curtas e breves, de forma a facilitar o seu uso. O presente estudo tem como principal objetivo avaliar as propriedades psicométricas de uma medida de item único do bem-estar, o Emotional and Psychological Outcome-1 (EPO-1). Para tal, foram analisadas 183 respostas a três instrumentos: o EPO-1, o Outcome Questionnaire-10.2 (OQ-10.2) e Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) de uma amostra clínica portuguesa de 33 pacientes. Os resultados sugerem que o EPO-1 apresenta: uma boa validade discriminante, com um tamanho de efeito médio; uma boa validade convergente, com correlações elevadas e estatisticamente significativas tanto com a ORS (r = .94 na escala analógica e r = .77 na Likert, p <.001) bem como com o OQ-10.2 (r = -.64 na escala analógica e r = -.61 na Likert, p <.001); e, boa fidelidade teste-reteste, com um tamanho de efeito elevado (r = .89 na escala analógica e r = .56 na Likert, p <.001). Este estudo desempenhou um papel fundamental na validação de uma medida ROM de item único do bem-estar, estabelecendo uma base para investigações futuras. Deste modo, é importante o desenvolvimento de mais estudos em Portugal, dando ênfase à utilização de amostras mais representativas e diversas da população clínica e não clínica.

The empirical studies have demonstrated that the inclusion of Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) measurements in clinical practice bring benefits to the clients. Alongside the advantageous perception of its inclusion in the therapeutic process, there has also been, as time goes on, the need for shorter and briefer ROM measures, in order to facilitate its use. This study’s main objective is to determine the psychometric properties of a single item measure of wellbeing, the Emotional and Psychological Outcome-1 (EPO-1). To that end, 183 responses to three instruments (the EPO-1, the Outcome Questionnaire-10.2 and the Outcome Rating Scale) were analyzed on a clinical sample of 33 Portuguese patients. The results suggest that the EPO-1 has: good discriminant validity, with an average effect size; good convergent validity, with high and statistically significant correlations on both ORS (r = .94 on the analogue scale and r = .77 on the Likert, p <.001) as well as OQ-10.2 (r = -.64 on the analogue scale and r = -.61 on the Likert, p <.001); and good test-retest fidelity, with high effect size (r = .89 on the analogue scale and r = .56 on the Likert, p <.001). This study was a key factor in the validation of a single item ROM measure of wellbeing, establishing a foundation for future research. With this in mind, it is important that more studies are conducted in Portugal, focusing on the usage of more diverse and representative samples of the clinical and non-clinical population.
