Facilitadores e barreiras da integração da criança com alergia alimentar na escola: perceção de crianças e pais/cuidadores

Abstract

A alergia alimentar é uma condição médica, definida como o efeito adverso resultante de uma resposta imunológica específica à ingestão, toque ou inalação, de pequenas quantidades de proteínas encontradas em alguns alimentos, sendo que até ao momento não há cura conhecida. Um quarto das crianças com alergia alimentar teve a sua primeira reação na escola; em geral, os alimentos que contêm alergénicos são encontrados neste ambiente sendo alta a probabilidade de ocorrência de reações alérgicas nas escolas. A literatura indica que pais/cuidadores relatam diretrizes ineficientes para gerir a alergias alimentares na escola. No entanto, não foram identificados estudos que indiquem como a criança com alergia alimentar percebe as situações do dia-a-dia escolar. Face a esta lacuna, o presente protocolo de estudo qualitativo visa investigar as perceções de pais/cuidadores e crianças com alergia alimentar acerca dos facilitadores e das barreiras à integração das crianças com alergia alimentar em ambiente escolar. Com as entrevistas teremos oportunidade de recolha de dados importantes para que a escola possa traçar ações alinhadas com as necessidades dos pais/cuidadores e crianças com alergia alimentar.

Food allergy is a medical condition, defined as the adverse effect resulting from a specific immune response to ingestion, touching or inhalation, of small amounts of proteins found in some foods, to which there is no known cure. A quarter of children with food allergies had their first reaction at school, and foods containing allergens are usually found in this environment, being the likelihood of allergic reactions occurring in schools high. Literature shows that parents/caregivers report inefficient guidelines for managing food allergies. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study has investigated e how the child with food allergy perceives the daily school situations. Considering this gap in the literature, this qualitative study protocol aims to investigate the perceptions of parents/caregivers and children with food allergy about the facilitators and barriers to the integration of children with food allergy in the school environment. With the interviews we will have the opportunity to collect important data for the school to design actions aligned with the needs of parents/caregivers and children with food allergy.
