This dissertation goes through the study of traditional offline contracts. Due to the importance of contracts for society, a brief overview of their evolution throughout history will be presented, as well as their concept, characteristics, functions and main principles of the contractual relationship. The principle at the centre of this study is that of the autonomy of will, considered to be the guiding principle of contracts, which gives contracting parties the freedom, within the limits that will be explored, to choose to contract and, in turn, to formulate their legal business in a way that best meets the objectives of the contract, ensuring that the business satisfies both parties. However, as it is a bilateral relationship, modifications can be made through the exercise of autonomy of will. On the other hand, associated with the impact of technology on society is the emergence of blockchain technology, which will also be the subject of this study. Blockchain, whose benefits include decentralization and immutability, has enabled the existence of another tool that better integrates contracts and technology: smart contracts, another point of this study. To better understand how they work in the real world, we will look at their emergence, idealization and evolution. Due to their inclusion in the blockchain, smart contracts inherit the characteristic of immutability, which creates the impression that these contracts will not allow the exercise of autonomy of will, since once they are included in the blockchain, the terms cannot be changed. As this is a technology that, although not new, is of recent applicability, smart contracts are still permeated by many doubts and questions, after all, to date, there is no specific regulation regarding their terms and execution. The question that this study seeks to answer is whether, in fact, smart contracts will prevent the parties from exercising one of their main strengths in traditional offline contracts, which is their autonomy.por
