Nowadays, electricity is an essential asset in the population’s lives. A large part of energy production become of processes that impact the environment negatively, such as the burning of fossil fuels that lead to the emission of pollutants, consumption of natural resources, climate changes, global warming, among other serious problems. Since the XX century, the demand for less dangerous ways to produce electricity has grown and, since then, renewable energies have started to grow in the electricity market. The environmental and economic benefits of these forms of energy production led the renewable energies to develop. In Portugal, the first renewable energy to expand on a large scale was hydropower, pursued by wind energy. Solar energy has been gaining emphasis in the world electricity market. This dissertation was made with the objective of studying the feasibility of implementing forms of energy production by renewable ways, in order to guarantee that the energy consumption of the company is 100% renewable. This dissertation focuses on the dimensioning of a photovoltaic plant, as the first step to achieve the goal. Initially, a bibliographic search was carried out on renewable energies, as well as their role in the Portuguese market and a framework of the applicable legislation. Then, the research focused on the photovoltaic energy, where some important concepts were analyzed, such as the types of solar systems, photovoltaics equipment’s, how to dimension the project, among others. Afterwards, was performed an analysis of the solar and wind resource for the projects. Then was carried out a study about the energy consumption of the buildings for the photovoltaic installations. After identifying the location and studying energy consumption and sun exposure, the photovoltaic power plants were dimensioned. The project was scaled without storage and connected to the public grid. Finally, an analysis was carried out in economic terms and future proposals were made to achieve the main goal. A matrix of environmental aspects and impacts associated with the elaboration of the projects in question was also carried out. Through the economic evaluation, it was found necessary an investment of 246700 € and 320815 € for Ponte de Lima and Penafiel, respectively. As for the economic indicators, it was possible to conclude that the projects are economically viable, because the payback occur in less than 7 years, VAL is positive and TIR is higher than the minimum attractiveness rate.por
