| dc.description.abstract | At a time when well-being is becoming a priority in many people's lives, thermal tourism takes on a renewed role as a driver of sustainable development and territorial enhancement. This dissertation seeks to understand how marketing, when properly applied in this sector, can help reposition thermal regions, transforming them into attractive, authentic destinations that are emotionally connected to both communities and visitors. Drawing from a qualitative approach and drawing from four case studies, these being Vizela, São Pedro do Sul, the Caldas da Rainha Thermal Spa, and the Portuguese Thermal Spa Association. The cases combined interviews with institutional representatives and netnographic observation, namely institutional websites of both the thermal unit and the region, analysis of content on networks - Instagram and Facebookand other digital communication of the involved entities. The collected data made it possible to understand how various territorial marketing strategies, storytelling, and co-creation are being applied to transform the traditional image of thermalism, aligning it with contemporary values such as sustainability, mental health, well-being, and cultural authenticity. More than just promoting a destination, territorial branding is revealed here as a powerful tool for identity building, differentiation, and emotional connection. This dissertation aims to deepen the understanding of the role of marketing in thermal tourism as a driver of this process, offering relevant contributions to researchers and decision-makers interested in rethinking and enhancing thermal destinations in a sustainable and authentic way. | por |
