Fibromyalgia (FM) is a clinical condition manifested by chronic widespread pain and accompanied by fatigue, sleep disturbances and other somatic symptoms such as headaches or cognitive symptoms such as short-term memory difficulties. Recent scientific evidence supports that FM patients not only have alterations in the processing of nociceptive stimulation, but also have alterations in the processing of soft and affective touch. In the present study, we sought to explore the interaction between affective touch and FM symptomatology and assess to what extent the different modalities of affective touch may constitute an advantage or a disadvantage for its carriers. After analysing data collected from an online sample of 104 FM patients, we found a significant correlation between attitude towards unfamiliar touch and symptoms, general impact and function, sleep disturbance and headache. However, these correlations were neither significantly negative nor positive between the other dimensions of affective touch and symptomatology. Our results suggest that the affective touch dimension of "attitudes towards unfamiliar touch" is negatively related to the impact of fibromyalgiapor
