The characteristics of words, whether perceptual (e.g., font size) or semantic (e.g., concreteness), have different impacts on the learning judgments made to them, their recall and the application of categorization strategies when evoking them. We can intuit that, for these impacts to occur, respondents must have to identify such characteristics of words. But will they be able to do so? In Experiment 1, word lists of the perceptual and semantic type were presented, consisting of two categories (e.g., high frequency vs. low frequency). The results showed that the categories of the percussive word lists were easier and more quickly identified than the semantic type lists. Perceived the identification capacity, we try to know the influence of its degree in the same measures. Thus, in Experiment 2, three semantic lists were presented with different levels of ease of identification (low, medium and high), verifying that the greater the ease of identification of the categories, the higher the JOLs, the recall of words and the use of these categories in the evocation strategy.por
