O Carnaval de Estarreja - Parte II: O cortejo noturno

Abstract

[Excerto] Era dia 28 de fevereiro de 2025. Chegamos a Estarreja cerca de 30 minutos antes do início do cortejo noturno das escolas de samba e podemos notar um grande movimento pela cidade em torno do Carnaval. Há algumas pessoas fantasiadas e em grupos, mas o movimento geral é de famílias e todos muito agasalhados por conta do frio que faz. Ao contrário de um Carnaval brasileiro, em que a festa e o barulho tomam todas as ruas de assalto pelos arredores, aqui temos um Carnaval bastante comedido, com as pessoas se destinando ao sítio de Carnaval de maneira organizada e conversando em um volume bastante baixo. Fazemos uma breve pausa para jantar em uma barraca de lanches e logo corremos para a nossa arquibancada, sendo necessário cruzar a avenida em que ocorrerá o desfile para lá chegarmos. Neste momento, quase me perco do Leo, que por estar ansioso e com medo de perder o desfile, despontou na frente. Enfim, tudo correu bem e nos ajeitamos para ver o primeiro desfile.[...]

[Excerpt] It was February 28, 2025. We arrived in Estarreja about 30 minutes before the start of the samba schools' night parade and we could notice that there was a lot of movement around the city for the Carnival. There are some people in costumes and gathered in groups, but the general crowd is made up of families and everyone is heavily dressed with layers because of the cold weather. Unlike a Brazilian Carnival, where the party and the noise take all the streets by storm, here we have a fairly restrained Carnival, with people going to the Carnival site in an organized way and talking at a remarkably low volume. We took a short break for dinner at a snack stand and then ran to our section of the grandstand, having to cross the Carnival avenue, where the parade would take place, in order to get there. At this point, I almost lost Leo, who was anxious and afraid of missing the parade. Ultimately, everything went well and we got ready to watch the first procession.[...]
