The major goal of this research was to test if the effect of physical attractiveness on time perception is modulated by hormonal changes that occur throughout the menstrual cycle, and if the magnitude of this effect depends of the temporal task used. Female participants (N=28) completed a reproduction and an estimation task in both low and high fertility phases. The reproduction task was similar to that employed by Arantes et al. (2013) except that here only male photographs were used. In the estimation task, participants were presented with only one stimulus in each trial (a neutral stimulus or a photograph of an attractive or unattractive male), and were asked to estimate its duration by selecting on a ruler presented on the screen. Results supported the main prediction that the temporal perception of attractive and unattractive males photographs depends on fertility, showing that during low fertility the average reproduced durations were significantly larger for the unattractive than the neutral stimuli, whereas during high fertility the durations were significantly larger for the attractive than the neutral stimuli. Also, the temporal task used seems to modulate this effect, as this effect occurred only in the reproduction task but not in the estimation task.por
