A cryptocurrency is a financial asset and can be stored and used as a means of payment. The concept came with the projection of Bitcoin in 2008, by Satoshi Nakamoto, and is viable due to blockchain technology. With the growing popularity of cryptocurrency and given that market participants and investors are interested in the relationship between macroeconomic variables and assets they are willing to invest in, this study aims to help understand to what extent investors diversify their portfolio by investing in cryptocurrencies. To this end, daily data was collected, from 2019 to 2021, on the quotes of the leading cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, Binance Coin, and Cardano. The econometric model used in the analysis was the autoregressive vector model, which estimates the interdependence relationships and the impacts between the variables. The result in this dissertation demonstrates a strong interdependence between cryptoassets and that investors may suffer if combined in an investment portfolio. Generally speaking, a positive or negative change in Bitcoin will cause a very significant change in Ethereum, Binance Coin, and Cardano. The only currency that proved unharmed to these shocks was Tether due to its proposal to be a stablecoin.por
