The relationship between the urban periphery and the city in the Middle Ages: the case of the Parish of Maximinos and its importance in the organization of the western peri-urban space of Braga (5th to 15th Centuries)

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the evolution of the territory that constituted the parish of Saint Peter Pedro de Maximinos and understand the importance assumed by this area, described in documentary sources from the second half of the 15th century as a arrabalde. We also seek to characterize its agricultural exploitation profile and, from these elements, delineate an illustrative plan of the western peri-urban zone of Braga.
