This dissertation aims to analyze the representation of love between LGBTQIAPN+ characters in pop culture television series and films, with a primary focus on the first season of the series Heartstopper (Netflix, 2022-2023). The central theme is justified by the significance of audiovisual media in representing these identities. As part of this research, the series The 100 (The CW, 2014-2020) and Warrior Nun (Netflix, 2020-2022) were also selected to illustrate differences in their approaches to romantic representations. These three series were chosen by having generated significant public engagement on social media. Throughout the research, an effort was made to contextualize how LGBTQIAPN+ love has been portrayed over time in audiovisual productions, as well as its influence on the construction or even the development of identities, especially among LGBTQIAPN+ youth. Based on this historical context, two specific situations were addressed: those that consolidate the term "Bury Your Gays" (BYG) and those that promote queerbaiting. Additionally, this dissertation discusses how LGBTQIAPN+ issues are addressed in various countries, particularly in Brazil. A qualitative approach based on documentary research was chosen as the methodological structure for this study. Grounded in the observation of these documents, the situated knowledge of the research participants and the theoretical frame of reference - which encompasses LGBTQIAPN+ character representation in audiovisual productions, semiotic analysis, and cinematic language - a deeper analysis of Heartstopper season 1, as well as specific scenes and episodes from The 100 and Warrior Nun, was conducted. To assess the types of representation of LGBTQIAPN+ characters in these series, the research employs criteria based on the "Vito Russo Test" and the "Bechdel Test", which, when combined with Souza's "Representation Test", reflect the researcher’s guiding questions. To gauge a portion of the audience's reception of Heartstopper, comments posted on six YouTube channels that reviewed the series were then analyzed: four pop culture channels hosted by openly LGBTQIAPN+ individuals and two channels focused on cinema and culture in general. The interpretations and observations of the comments were conducted using content analysis and discourse analysis methodologies, as well as intentional or judgmental sampling and non-probabilistic intentional sampling techniques. The concluding remarks of this study, supported by the analysis of the corpus of this research, highlight the importance of positive representations of LGBTQIAPN+ characters and the role of television series like Heartstopper in promoting discussions that enable these representations within a framework where audience participation is essential for ensuring and maintaining these achievements.por
