The need to find materials for tooth or joint replacement has led to the emergence of new alternatives in terms of materials for dental implants and orthopaedic implants. One of the main problems with im-plants is the accumulation of bacteria, which can be harmful to the health of the patient and the implant itself, and in extreme cases can lead to high-risk health complications. The main objective of this study was the tribological characterisation of the Ti6Al4V titanium alloy and zirconia (ZrO2) considering textured and non-textured surfaces, uncoated and coated with two antimicro-bial films, based on the evaluation of the static and dynamic coefficient of friction and the tribologycal wear resulting from sliding against bovine cortical bone in the presence of saline solution. Although the aspects involved in this study are common to surfaces for implants in orthopaedics and oral rehabilitation, it was decided to emphasise only the context of application in oral rehabilitation so as not to make this document too long and repetitive. The materials considered were subjected to reciprocating sliding tests in a tribometer with a pin-plate configuration at a temperature of 25°C ± 1°C. Bovine cortical bone was used as the counter body and the plate. Three tests were carried out for each type of material and the normal load applied was kept constant at 1 N. The first phase of each test took place at almost static sliding speed and lasted 50 seconds, with the aim of assessing the static friction coefficient. The second phase of the respective test took place with a plate oscillation frequency of 1Hz for 300 seconds in order to assess the dynamic friction coefficient and the wear resistance of the surfaces of the materials under study. After analysing the results, it was concluded that the substrate materials as well as the coatings under study were able to withstand the sliding conditions to which they were subjected. The main highlight goes to the Ti6Al4V titanium alloy, textured and coated with a thin film of titanium dioxide, whose static friction coefficient values (0.73 ± 0.03) proved to be the highest, promoting primary fixation of the implant to the bone.por
