dos alunos que traduzem a resolução das tarefas propostas nas aulas; questões colocadas no final das aulas;
questionários (inicial e final); entrevista efetuada no final do ano letivo a alguns alunos.
The present study aims to investigate the contribution of modelling tasks and the use of the graphing calculator in the learning of functions in 11th grade students. To achieve this goal, the following research questions were formulated: (1) "What activities do students develop with modelling tasks in the study of functions? “; (2) "What difficulties do students express when learning functions? What about when resolving modelling tasks and exploring the graphing calculator? “; (3) "What perceptions do students have about modelling tasks and the use of the graphing calculator in learning functions? ". To answer the research questions, the following data collection methods were used: audio and video recordings of classes; real productions of the students that translate the resolution of the tasks proposed during class; questions asked at the end of class; questionnaires (initial and final); interview carried out at the end of the school year with some of the participant students. The pedagogical intervention was conducted in a class of the 11th grade of the scientific-humanistic course, in a school located in the district of Braga. The teaching and learning activities promoted in class were articulated according to the modelling tasks, following a modelling cycle using a graphing calculator, guided by the exploratory teaching method. The classes were organized in four moments: task introduction; task exploration; task discussion; systematization of knowledge, these moments were held either in moments of introduction of topics of functions or in its consolidation. Regarding the results obtained, these indicate that most students had no experience in performing modelling tasks. According to participant students, being in pairs or groups helped in the execution of the mathematical modelling tasks, the interest and in the commitment of the students in the study of functions. In exploring the modelling tasks, the students went through the various phases of the modelling cycle, with the help of a graphing calculator, choosing to consider them separately or jointly, cyclically, and sometimes, in a non-sequential way. In this study, it was also evident that the students had difficulties in terminologies and properties of functions, in the various types of representations, as well as in their conversion of representations into others, such as, for example, in the transition from verbal to symbolic representation. The various phases of the modeling cycle, the use of the potential of the graphing calculator (such as, for example, defining the viewing window), collecting data, translating them into a mental representation and building a model of the situation and its graphic interpretation were also obstacles for the students during class. However, the students were of the opinion that the modelling tasks and the use of the graphing calculator contributed to a greater interest, greater understanding and, consequently, to a greater link between functions study (mathematics) and everyday problems, thus having a significant promotion to interdisciplinary. Finally, it has also been said to enrich group work. |
