| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation project was made in the context of the Master’s degree “Mestrado em Design e Inovação de Produtos Têxteis e acessórios”, and its main objective lies on the development of a newborn clothing collection, wearable from 0 to 24 months that is sustainable, durable and built upon the ideas of a circular economy. Besides this, the collection should also effectively answer the physical needs of the baby, since the clothes are going to be in direct contact with the extremely fragile and sensitive baby skin. On an early stage, both the characteristics of the baby’s skin and the way that a baby’s body develops were studied as a way to identify the necessary properties to obtain a comfortable apparel on a sensorial and thermophysiologic level that allows free exploring, which is very characteristic of this age. The impact of the usage of cotton was also identified since this is the mostly used fibre in children clothing. Additionally, an analysis was carried out regarding the strategies for circular design that might support product development. Following that, the practical work was initialized, based on a circular implementation methodology that was divided into four stages. The first stage had the objective of understanding the build of already existent products and the possible improvements to be made. On a second stage, the target audience, the aesthetic inspiration, the colours and all the requirements of the products were established. On the third stage, the product was designed and on the last one, the predicted cycles were evaluated. The result consists of a collection built of three pieces made of bamboo fibre: a shirt, pants and a diaper cover. The pieces are reversible and can be utilized separately or united to create a body and a babygrow and are also more long-lasting due to their adjustable size that provides an estimated wear time from 6 to 12 months. The final collection is durable, sustainable and works on a closed cycle, allowing the reusage of the apparel through three different strategies. | por |
