Na Casa-Museu Igrejas Caeiro: som, escuta e corpo

Abstract

Quem sobe do centro de Caxias, rumo ao Alto do Lagoal, numa estrada estreita, mas concorrida, ladeada por moradias descritas como “de luxo” ou “de prestígio” pelas imobiliárias, terá dificuldade em imaginar o caminho precário, não asfaltado, que, no final da década de 1950, fazia a ligação entre aquela povoação de Oeiras e os novos moradores que ali se instalaram. Um caminho longo, a pique, diariamente percorrido por carroças, bicicletas e furgonetas que abasteciam famílias de posses como a de Francisco Igrejas Caeiro (1917-2012) e Irene Velez (1914-2014), desde 1959 a viverem no cimo daquela colina privilegiada voltada para o Tejo.

A casa de Igrejas Caeiro, inaugurada em 1959, começou a ser construída em 1957, em três generosos lotes de terreno. O arquiteto, Francisco Keil do Amaral, precisava de espaço, vista e enquadramento que abrissem a casa do amigo-cliente a um espaço exterior privilegiado, que prolongasse fora de portas as linhas e a fluidez modernistas para dentro projetadas. A imprensa acorre a conhecer a nova casa do popular homem da rádio, do teatro e do cinema. Chama-lhe “vivenda de estilo hollywoodiano”. O que a investigadora-guia não esperava é que o exercício de escuta da voz do dono da casa visitada, na ampla sala da casa, com as cortinas abertas para o Tejo, fosse por todos tão bem acolhida.

Anyone driving up from the center of Caxias, towards Alto do Lagoal, on a narrow but busy road, flanked by houses described as “luxury” or “prestigious” by real estate agents, will have a problem imagining the precarious, unpaved road that, at the end of the 1950s, connected this town in Oeiras with the new residents who settled there. A long, steep road, traveled daily by carts, bicycles, and vans that supplied wealthy families like the one of Francisco Igrejas Caeiro (1917-2012) and Irene Velez (1914-2014), who have lived on top of that privileged hill overlooking the Tejo River since 1959.

The Igrejas Caeiro residence, inaugurated in 1959, started to be built in 1957, on three very generous plots of land. The architect, Francisco Keil do Amaral, needed the space, view, and framing that could extend the friend-client’s house into a privileged outdoor space that might expand the modernist lines and fluidity that had been designed for it, out of doors. The press comes to know the new home of the popular man of radio, theater, and cinema. They called it a “Hollywood-style villa”. What the researcher-guide didn’t expect was that the exercise of listening to the voice of the owner of the house visited, in the spacious living room of the house, with the curtains drawn to the Tejo River, would be so well received by all.
