| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation was carried out within the scope of the 2nd semester of the 2nd year of the master’s degree in Systems Engineering, at the Department of Production and Systems at the University of Minho. It was developed in a business context, in the automotive company BorgWarner Emissions Systems Portugal, specifically supporting the transfer of lines from another location. The main objective is to support the implementation, and consequent improvement, of these same lines, using the Lean Six Sigma philosophy, and respective tools. The research methodology used was Action-Research, which is characterized as a cyclical process, leading to the researcher to alternate between action and critical reflection. This project was divided into two phases. In the first, the initial standardization of procedures and documentation of the lines was carried out, thus supporting their first implementation and guaranteeing the start of production. In a second phase, with a view to continuous improvement, an analysis of the initial state was carried out, using process mapping, SIPOC and dispersion diagrams, culminating in the presentation of two VSM reflecting two key references in the process. Problems such as the high rate of rework, document irregularities, as well as the lack of traceability of components, security and organization were then identified. In order to combat the problems previously identified, Lean Six Sigma tools were applied. The implementation of 5S's techniques reinforced the organization structure of workstations, leading to a reduction in waste combined with an improvement in quality and safety. The reduction in the rework rate on the 7H03-2 line is estimated to result in a gain throughout 2022 of around 30.5 thousand euros, and, until 2026, around 113 thousand euros. Enhanced traceability significantly reduces the risk of quality complaints. The implementation of the software reduces the time spent by Team Leaders, with estimated annual savings of 2 thousand euros. | por |
