| dc.description.abstract | The aim of this project is to preserve a heritage site that was very present in the lives of family members, where they grew up and created memories. The target of this intervention is located in Longos, Guimarães, in an area with many changes in topography, on land where agricultural activities were carried out and where buildings were built to meet the needs of these activities. This intervention target is isolated, as it is far from the other houses and the national road. Due to the experiences of the family members, the aim is to restore the original condition of the building, as if the passing of the years had not affected it, while incorporating modern solutions to make it meet today's housing needs. This intention aims to keep the memories of the place alive and allow new generations of the family to create new memories. The project then involves reusing as many pre-existing building elements as possible, as well as adapting them to meet current needs in terms of comfort. To this end, the residential building was converted from areas that were not habitable into a single volume. The drying area has undergone a total conversion in terms of functionality, becoming a space for socializing and relaxing. The two buildings function independently, despite being on the same site. The intention was to create two spaces that didn't require direct interaction between them. In order to define certain aspects of the intervention, natural and thermal lighting analyses were carried out to understand the best way to install glazing that provides comfortable lighting inside the building, as well as to identify the differences between the various construction solutions and how they can influence the building's comfort and energy costs. Solutions were thus defined that demonstrate the relationship between new and pre-existing elements, while maintaining harmony in terms of materiality. | por |
