Filigrana de Gondomar: o percurso da arte tradicional gondomarense dos tempos remotos até à contemporaneidade

Abstract

O município de Gondomar é conhecido pela longa tradição de ourivesaria, destacando-se a técnica decorativa de filigrana. Hoje em dia, o futuro desta arte decorativa é incerto devido ao número reduzido dos filigraneiros tradicionais gondomarenses, comparando com a situação no passado. Com o propósito de apoiar e promover o artesanato da filigrana, a Câmara Municipal de Gondomar, em colaboração com os filigraneiros, tem desenvolvido um produto turístico denominado a Rota da Filigrana. Além disso, o município, colaborando com Póvoa de Lanhoso, começou o processo de certificação da filigrana tradicional manual com o fim de preparar, conjuntamente, a candidatura à Lista Representativa do Património Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade da UNESCO. A presente dissertação tem por objetivo reconstruir a história da indústria de ourivesaria, com foco na região de Gondomar, desde os tempos antigos até à contemporaneidade para destacar a tradição longínqua deste artesanato. Além disso, pretende-se reconstruir a evolução da arte da filigrana, como parte da ourivesaria tradicional gondomarense, e retratar a sua situação atual em relação à Rota da Filigrana e ao reconhecimento da filigrana tradicional, a nível nacional e internacional. Além da parte teórica, o trabalho baseou-se igualmente na parte prática, que consiste das entrevistas com os filigraneiros gondomarenses com objetivo de adquirir informações atuais sobre as oficinas tradicionais existentes no município de Gondomar. Além do mais, pretendeu-se conhecer a história das oficinas, o processo de produção das peças de filigrana, clientela, opiniões e perceções dos artesãos sobre esta arte ancestral e sobre o, relativamente novo, projeto – Rota da Filigrana. Por fim, analisaram-se e resumiram-se as informações obtidas para elaboração das conclusões sobre a situação atual da filigrana no concelho de Gondomar, destacando os problemas detetados, que poderão ameaçar o futuro deste património imaterial.

The municipality of Gondomar is known for its long tradition of goldsmithing, especially for the decorative filigree technique. Nowadays, the future of this decorative art is uncertain due to the reduced number of local traditional goldsmiths of filigree, comparing with the situation in the past. To support and promote the craft of filigree, the Municipality of Gondomar, in collaboration with the filigree goldsmiths, created a tourism product called Filigree Route. Besides that, Gondomar, collaborating with the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso, began the process of certification of the traditional manual filigree with a view to prepare the application for UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The aim of the thesis is to reconstruct the history of the goldsmith industry, with focus on the region of Gondomar, from ancient times to the contemporary, to highlight the long tradition of this craft. Besides that, it aims to reconstruct the development of the filigree art, as part of Gondomar’s traditional gold smithery, and to describe its current situation regarding to the Filigree Route and the recognition of the traditional filigree, at national and international level. Besides the theoretical part, the thesis is based also on the practical part, which consists of interviews with filigree goldsmiths of Gondomar to obtain current information about existing traditional workshops in the municipality. In addition, it was intended to get to know the history of the workshops, the process of production of filigree jewelry, clientele, opinions and perceptions of craftsmen about the filigree and the relatively new project – Filigree Route. Finally, the obtained information was analysed and summarized to elaborate conclusions about the current situation of the filigree in the municipality of Gondomar, highlighting the identified problems, which could threaten the future of this intangible heritage.
